Steps Toward a True Meritocracy

blog

Over the past few months the conversation around diversity has really skyrocketed and I’ve been busy further educating myself at events like VogueCodes, Code like a girl, Girl Geeks and 9 to Thrive (to name a few).

As an Ambassador for Women in Tech, it's my mission to help educate my partners on the best way to go about improving their diversity and to ultimately feminise technology for future generations.

The fact of the matter is, this is not going to be a quick solution – hiring ONLY women isn't indicative of a true meritocracy, nor do women value being hired for the sake of a number (as research has shown).

The real solution lies within the next generation – because ultimately we (as recruiters) can only influence the market right now, with people that are already within tech or just starting out.

But the real disruption needs to happen far earlier, it starts in childcare and schooling and it's reaffirmed in our homes and in our attitudes.

With the support of everyone here at Evolution, we are developing solutions to help diversify interview processes, our client’s Employer Value Propositions (EVP) and attract diverse talent.

Now whilst I can develop solutions to help my partners to work towards a true diverse meritocracy, I can’t do it all – nor can I do it all alone!

These solutions will start to roll out in coming months, so I would like to ask companies and/or ambassadors who would like to get involved and make a difference – so get in touch!
