Goal Mapping: The driving force behind success

Around four years ago, I was introduced to Goal Mapping through Evolution by attending a Goal Map workshop, which was delivered by an internal trainer. At the time, I found that I didn’t fully understand what it was, what it meant, or how it could genuinely help to increase my chances of success.

What is Goal Mapping?

The Goal Mapping website states the following: “Goal Mapping works to develop the empowering mindsets, winning attitudes and effective habits that create success in an individual, a team or even an entire community.”

After spending some time working on myself, understanding the way the brain works and being able to utilise a positive mental attitude, I was asked to learn more about Goal Mapping. This was in order to understand the benefits it could have, not only for myself, but for everyone at Evolution. I was signed up to a Brian Mayne Goal Mapping course, which really opened up my mind to how much Goal Mapping could enhance and increase the effectiveness and productivity of working towards achieving personal and business goals.

I did a lot of research into brain chemistry, the power of choice and the way a goal can help you focus. In addition to this, I learnt how to utilise both sides of your brain to maximise your chances of balancing your visual and logical thinking, to have the best chance of keeping the end goal in mind.

Does Goal Mapping actually work?

Yes! When I properly understood how it worked, I was in a position to then create my own workshop to train Evolution’s employees on how to build a Goal Map. My aim was to encourage my colleagues to understand how to work in the most effective way possible, in order to remain focused on achieving their dreams. Previously, people in general – including myself – set themselves goals to work towards without a plan or a focus, which resulted in most people failing at the first hurdle.

Now, people have a goal, a purpose and a plan, as well as consistent follow-ups and progress meetings with myself or one of our Directors. This helps to keep everyone on track, and we are now seeing a much higher success rate in people making their dreams a reality.

How has Goal Mapping worked at Evolution?

One of the main things that I personally realised, and something I have tried to help my colleagues realise, is that having a purpose is the driving force behind pushing yourself towards your goals. There were too many people whose purpose was to only serve themselves, which was not usually enough to drive them further than they would have if the purpose was greater than being solely about them.

I am proud to say that we have helped many of Evolution’s employees to believe in themselves as empowered individuals through Goal Mapping, by taking full responsibility of their own goals and success.

I would like to share two of our staff testimonials with you:

“Goal mapping is something completely new to me prior to starting with Evolution. I had hazy goals of what I wanted to do or where I wanted to be in the future, but never really had a plan of how to achieve these goals – especially a plan for a period of 12 months. However, having achieved most of my goals from the 12-month plan in 9 months, it makes perfect sense as to why Goal Mapping is used for personal and business development.

I set myself goals to help improve the overall quality of my life, such as a new house, a new car and a promotion. I found that one of the key elements to Goal Mapping is taking the time to build a picture of where you would like to be in 12 months’ time, and then creating a plan of why and how. When this important part is completed, you can then begin your journey to achieving these goals, giving your daily routine a sense of purpose on a personal level.”

“Having completed the Goal Mapping course with a previous trainer, in comparison to that, this year it has proven to be more productive than ever. Matt’s delivery is a clear factor in the course improvements and effectiveness, and the continuous monitoring and frequent Goal Mapping catch-up meetings mean I am constantly thinking about the goals I have set for myself. Having this support enables me to hold myself accountable, with Matt checking in with me quarterly.

I am on my way to realistically achieving my goals, and have set myself additional goals too. Without the whole Goal Mapping structure, I am not sure if I could keep myself motivated and keep my goals at the forefront of my mind.”
