Tony Oliver
Associate Consultant - Pathology
Graduating from the University of London, Tony began his career in virology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for Children in 1984, having switched from a research grant in Electron Microscopy. He furthered his career at Hammersmith and St Mary’s Hospital in London, before moving to Barts and the London NHS Trust, now Barts Health NHS Trust, in 2003. Three years in the private sector and running his own business in the field of Finance and Information Technology broadened his experience in the late 1990s. A Laboratory Manager with many years’ experience and CPA/UKAS Assessor, he was the first Advanced Practitioner in Virology in the UK and provided elements of the clinical cover for Virology at Barts Health NHS Trust. His interests included the diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis viruses and the diagnosis of gastrointestinal viruses. Professionally, he has been Deputy Specialist Adviser to the Scientific Advisory Panel of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS). He contributed to the IBMS London Region Virology Discussion Group for 10+ years in various capacities, the most long-running of which being sponsorship secretary and website designer. Since 2017 he has worked for the LIMS supplier Clinisys, as Programme Manager and now Programme Director. He has, during his tenure, managed around half the 100+ Professional Services staff, and has significant experience in data migration. In his role as Programme Director, he is Senior Responsible Officer for the large LIMS implementation programmes. Accordingly, he has responsibility for the delivery, revenue and senior stakeholder management of around one third of the Clinisys UK portfolio. He is also Clinical Safety Officer for the UK, assuring and managing software clinical risk management.
