At Evolution, we’re passionate about STEM careers, so we were gripped when we saw our sister company, RTRS, had posted an article summarising the current and future state of STEM careers.
The article looks at recent features and reports into STEM careers and pulls out some really interesting facts. For example, it suggests that while the STEM sector at large is currently suffering a dearth of skilled candidates and is sometimes struggling to fill roles, innovations and initiatives going right down to primary school level mean that over the coming years, more and more people will be drawn into further study of STEM subjects, with a view to embarking on successful STEM careers, whether that’s in engineering, IT, tech or something else entirely. So, while things are far from 100% right now, we are definitely heading for a STEM revolution.
Did you know that tech and engineering candidates are currently in high demand because there is an annual shortfall of up to 59,000 technicians and engineering graduates to fill core STEM roles in the UK? Or that women make up just 12% of the tech and engineering workforce, when they make up 47% of the overall UK workforce? Or that 62% of tech and engineering graduates go on to full time employment compared to just 56% of all UK graduates?
If you’re finding these facts and figures fascinating and would like to look at how they affect you either as a candidate or as an employer, then you really need to read the whole article. You can find it on RTRS’s blog.
